The small synchronous hysteresis motor has the magnetic interaction between main and auxiliary (starting) pole plates reduced by increasing the magnetic reluctance between them, so that strongly elliptical fields are avoided and the motor staring and synchronous operation are not degraded. The main pole plates lie against the stator windings. The motor has an external rotor and the auxiliary pole plates lie parallel to them, between them and the external rotor. The reluctance between the main pole plates and the core tube around the shaft is increased either by reducing the area of contact between them or by making holes in the main pole plates where they join the tube.
