The filter housing has an upper opening for access to and replacement of the cartridge and two separate passages in its base connecting the inner space in the housing with an outlet connection. The housing inner chamber is also connected to a third passageway leading to an outlet connection by a drain passage which can be closed by a removable plug. When the filter housing cover is removed, the housing is automatically drained and oil spillage during replacement of the cartridge is prevented.
