The sorting table is supplied with parcels or containers from a conveyor and has three longitudinal lanes. The outer two lanes are at a lower level than the centre lane, but all three lanes start off at the level of the centre lane at the table section. When the parcels are pushed onto the sorting table, deflector rails divert the outer two rows of parcels onto the low level lanes. Thus loading or unloading of the containers can occur without interference from any one lane of containers. By further moving the containers forward, two converging deflector rails bring the three lanes of containers together again.
