An alignment or focussing system is for copy original in a photo copying machine having a transport drive which moves the copy original along a closed pathway and alignment pieces to set the copy original at right angles to the transport path. A guide (26) is situated at right angles to the transport path of the copy original. The guide (26) may be moved into the transport path and is situated behind the suction body (19), which is positioned below the transport conveyor belt. This arrangement allows accurate repeated copying without damage, e.g wear along the edges.
