Test under simulated operating conditions of sets of wheels for rail vehicles has a wheel (b) running in a rotating drum (e) equipped with rail (d). Cylinders (1,2) are provided which load the wheel and the shaft (a) in a vertical and/or lateral direction. With the aid of the first cylinder (1), force is introduced into the set of wheels via an anti-friction bearing which is mounted laterally on the wheel. The anti-friction bearing is mounted on a swivel table. The second cylinder (2) introduces the lateral force into the swivel table. The drum slopes in relation to the set of wheels.
