The portable flat electric heater, for room heating etc., has a heating element in the form of a conductive foil (3) sandwiched between two wooden or plastics sheets (1, 2) so that the heat output is the same at all points of the heater surface. The peripheral edges of the two facing sheets (1, 2) may be joined together by inserting double-sided adhesive tape (5) between them, the edges pref. also enclosed by a frame formed from U shaped profile elements (6, 7). Pref., a layer of insulation (4) is inserted between each side of the heating foil (3) and the respective facing sheet (1, 2) and the latter are made from material selected to remain at hand-hot temp. during use of the heater.
