Laser has a laser-active waveguide solid layer (I), with one end formed as reflector. (I) forms a 90 degrees prism (P) opposite the reflector (9), the faces (P1,P2) of the prism including an angle of 45 degrees with the long axis (1000) of the laser perpendicular to the reflector. The laser is pumped optically by light sources placed symmetrically to this long axis. The light wave can be aplitude-modulated with little technical expenditure, since 2 coherent rays are produced, which are passed through a phase modulator and then to a 3 dB coupler. It is not necessary to use another 3 dB coupler before the phase modular, so that tolerance problems are avoided. (I) is a YAG:Nd3+ film grown epitaxially on a YAG crystal and 2 rows of luminescent diodes are used for pumping. E.g. a YAG substrate with a YAG:Nd3+ laser-active waveguide layer, pumped by 0.8 um light from 2 rows of GaAlAs luminescent diodes produced light of wavelength 1.06 mu m.
