The concrete-reinforcing and stressing steel rod (4) is dimensioned and has sloping ribs spaced in such a way as to exert min. disruptive influence on the surrounding concrete, while providing rigid anchorage and low sensitivity to wet concrete setting below it when horizontally concreted in. A set number of lower sloping ribs (1) are arranged between two elevated ones (2), so that their rib surfaces stand in a predetermined relationship, with each individual rib's max. elevation comprising at least 0.03 times the rod diameter, for concrete ribbed steel, or 0.02 times this for stressing steel. The ribs can be inclined from 15 to 65 relative to the rod's longitudinal axis.
