A bottle conveyor has a belt conveyor (3) on which rows (16, 17) of bottles are advanced to a take-off point (6), where at given point, each row is deposited onto an intermediate belt conveyor (4) having a length equal only to the dia. of the bottles. The whole dirve is controlled by photo electric monitoring devices so that a row can pass under the first longitudinal as they pass onto the second, short, conveyor and the bottles in that row are stedied by the horizontals.
