Research on beer bottle raised character extraction and recognition

Measure up to national standard beer bottle can be reused by recognizing "B" and the marked date. The work is done by handwork now. It will make the workload heavier and the production costs higher. A extracting and recognizing "B" and the marked date of beer bottle is proposed using computer. It replaces handwork and reduces production costs and improves efficiency. First system is introduced. Second beer bottle image is preprocessed. Next characters is segmented from image using a method based on split-combination idea. Then stroke of character is extracted using topographic structure method. At last character is recognition using multi-layer artificial neural network. Experimental results indicate that the method can recognize the mark "B" and the marked date from beer bottle efficiently. The accuracy rate is about 97 percent. The recognition time spent on a single character is less than 0.15 second.
