Refractory lining compsn. - based on silicon carbide with addition of silicon nitride to improve abrasion and erosion resistance

Compsn. for forming refractory linings by stamping, spraying or coating, contains 57-6 wt.% of SiC particles (0-4mm); 1-20 wt.% (preF. 3-6 wt.%/ of Si3N4 particles (0-0.1 mm, pref. 0-0.063 mm); 1-15 (3-6) wt.% of completely tempered, condensed AlPO4 powder (0-1mm); 2-8 (3-6)wt.% of ball clay and, opt. 0.5-1.5 wt.% of an organic binder, e.g. pitch. Si3N4 of technical grade can be used. The ball clay is pref. introduced in the form of a slip prepd. with a peptisation agent. Compsn. is used for lining melting chambers, cyclone furnaces, rubbish burning kilns and retorts for Zn distn; and for the prodn. of refractory stones, e.g. tongued and grooved stones. The wettability of the material is lowered by the addn. of Si3N4.
