The length or angle measuring device has an optoelectronic scanner with a light source and receiver, scanning the scale by transmitted light. This produces relative movement between scale and scanner. The scale consists of a number of optical fibres whose ends are placed at specified distances from each other along a measurement path. Scanner light source (10) and/or receiver (11) are, during their movement along the scale, aligned with it through at least one further optical fibre of a corresponding cross-section. The optical material is pref. glass supported by aluminium plates to which the are attached by an adhesive.
