Hand unwinding device for with a tape wound on an open ring shaped core includes a core inserted in the core of the tape rollers. The tape roller freely rotates on the core and is provided on its outer side with a cover. The cover has a slot for the unwound tape and is fitted with a device for separating an unound length of tape from the roll. The core (14) has a half moon shape and includes one part (16) of its circumference which fits in the inner wall of the core (18) of the tape roll (20) and a second part of its circumference which forms a grip (22). The cover (21) includes opposite side walls (28) which are partly covering the tape roll and a cover plate (30) which with its bottom side (30a) fits partly the circumference of the tape roll. The cover plate (30) and the side walls (28) form a projection (32) on which is mounted the tape separating device (54, 56). The core n14) is movably attached to the cover plate and the side walls (28) and the guide slot is limited by band guides (52) positioned near the projection (32) and parallel to bottom side (30a) of the cover plate.
