Sepn. of spirits into first runnings middle runnings, and last runnings involves measuring the quantity of middle runnings to separate the first runnings. This measurement is carried out electrically or electromechanically. The middle runnings are septd. by measuring the specific. wt. of the last runnings, pref. using an aerometer (alcoholmeter) in a receiving vessel. The aerometer can be monitored opto-electrically electro-mechanically electrostatically, or by means of an electrical switch. Pref. the appts. used contains two valves which utilise the differences in geodetic height of the three phases.
