Filter element of sandwich construction - with spherical plastic particles embedded between perforated walls, the thicker wall downstream

A filter element, which may be flat or tubular, consists of a sandwich of the filter particles between two perforated walls, the downstream wall being several times thicker than the other. In a tubular filter element, with flow from inside outwards, the filter medium is contained in the annular space between inner and outer tubes, which are concentric. Used for filter elements employing plastic particles of spherical shape cemented together by epoxy resin, as used in water filtration. The element has increased mechanical strength with thinner wall construction; is simple design and is of low-cost construction.
