The space-retainer, for supporting reinforcing units in concrete building components, consists of interconnected U-shaped stirrup shackles, with vertical shanks as legs and base shanks forming loadable base struts, running parallel to the sheathing. Auxiliary assembly units are formed on the space-retainer, pref. with a clamping hook (30) and clamping inclined section (31). The loadable base struts of a fully formed space-retainer (1) can consist of a row of U-shaped stirrup shackles, pref. stabilised by alternately arranged standing legs (4).
