The shield (1) for the hand and forearm for playing volleyball consists of a tube of triangular cross section made of PVC, wood metal or similar material. A strap (2) fixed to the mid-points of two sides of the triangle forms a handgrip at one end of the tube. The other end of the tube is lined with a strip (3) of foam rubber to fit closely around the user's arm. The shield enables the user to strike the ball with much greater force and to control its direction more accurately than is the case when using bare hands. An alternative design uses a woven net mounted on a frame instead of a triangular tube.
