An input line damping system is used. The degree of damping may be reduced without stability reduction, so that a large number of amplifier stages can be connected in cascade and high gain and output power may be achieved. The input line consists of a chain circuit of current or voltage controlled current sources for mismatched directional couplers, so that damping and losses are compensated. In each stage there is a gate (1) interacting with other gates (2, 3, 4). The gates are cross-coupled so that the first gate (1) is connected to gate (4) and the second gate (2) is connected to gate (3).
