Globe shaped lamp has a large vol. lamp cover shaped as a globe mounted on a stand and fitted with a high intensity bulb enclosed by a globe-shaped inner hood. The latter (4) consists of clear glass to which an opal covering (6) has been applied evenly over the whole of its circumference. The layer thickness of the opal covering is chosen to ensure that during the operation of the lamp a dazzle free degree of brightness is produced. The covering hood (2) is mounted on a stand (3). The inner hood (4) encloses a high pressure lamp (5).
