Steam barrier for ceilings and walls of rooms subjected to relatively high humidity such as covered-in swimming baths, comprises pref. (laminated) Al-foil interrupted by steam barrier strips (I) which take up a heat-insulating layer located under the steam barrier and to whose edges the latter is adhesively and steam-tightly bonded. Specifically (I) comprises a steam-resistant foam strengthened by spaced, overlapping, sheet metal profiles. (I) esp. is a base strip fastened to an expansion compensating strip of polyurethane foam or wood and fastened to a ceiling or wall.
