The insulation consists of an iner metal layer, which is esp. Al foil (a) employed to reflect heat. Foil (a) is permanently bonded to a central sheet or strip (c) contg. numerous pot-shaped recesses filled with air so sheet (c) forms an air cushion. Sheet (c) is made of a polymer, and is covered on one or both sides by a foil (b,d), which may be a separate foil or the Al. One pref. laminate consists of the sequence (abcde) where foils (b,d) are made of polymer, and foils (a,e) are made of Al. The outer surfaces of one or both Al foils (a,e) are pref. covered with anchor pins or lugs. The laminate is easy to locate in or on walls, ceilings etc., and the air cushion restricts heat losses through the laminate.
