Improving skid resistance of tyres on snow and ice comprises arranging a cable of steel wire around the tyre so that part of the diameter of the cable is over the tyre tread. Instead of wire cable, any material which is harder than rubber can be used, e.g. steel wire, chains, coiled springs springs or synthetic cables e.g. Nylong or rubber.
