Ski brake to be attached below the ski boot sole has at least one brake arm swivelling around a transverse axis and extending sideways from the ski. An actuating bow extends above the ski and is rigidly coupled to it. The bow is pre-tensioned through spring pressure towards an upper end position when the brake arm is in its swivelled out downwards operating position and is adjustable against the spring tension through the action of the ski boot sole to a lower end position when the brake arm is in its withdrawn position. A torsion spring (14) located in, or close to, the level of the bow (12) is attached with one end to the bow (12) and with the other end to a lever supported on a fixed section vertical to the ski's surface on the side of the transverse axis facing the bow.
