All closure points of the overvoltage arrester housing, which is intended for fully insulated switchgear filled with inert gas, have several coaxial seals (1), effective one behind the other. At least between two seals is formed an annular channel (6) which is brought out in axial direction from the gas-filled switchgear. Preferably at least one inlet (8) and outlet channel (7), which passes through the entire axial length of the arrester housing (4), is provided for the annular channel(s). An extraction unit with a gas detector may be provided in the inlet channel. The inlet and outlet channels of diametral configuration may be provided with a through flow of a checking gas, such as air.
