Carbon dioxide axial piston compressor for vehicle air-conditioning systems comprises an axial floating ring seal (5, 5a, 5b) and a housing-side ring stop (18) which define on a housing inner side an annular space (1f) between a drive shaft (14) and a housing passage (15). On the side lying opposite the axial floating ring seal or on the outer housing side the annular space has air inlet opening (4d) and near its housing inner limit an air outlet opening (1g) so that cooling air can be guided through the annular space and to the axial floating ring seal or ring stop. Preferred Features: The air inlet opening has either external or internal air-guiding elements (4c, 4f).
