The microwave pulse generator, for the millimeter waveband, has a Gunn diode and transistor modulator to produce pulses of length variable between 1 and 100 nsec. The modulator has three stages. It has an input amplifier, a drive stage and an output stage. The modulator is load-dependent in such a way that the edges of the pulses generated are steepened and the bias voltage for the diode varies with pulse repetition frequency. The Gunn diode (RL) is located in the modulator output stage. The drive stage is an emitter follower.
