The method of manufacturing end caps for cans begins with cutting zig-zag strips (2) from large sheets. A row of location holes is pierced in each strip along a central line. The strips are then joined together end to end by tack welding. The dimensions of each strip are such that, after welding, the distance between the end location hole in one strip and the corresponding hole in the next stri is exactly equal to twice the pitch of the holes in each row. This spacing of the location holes enables the continuous strip formed by welding to be fed into a blanking press for stamping the circular blanks of the end caps.
