Fire retardant polyacrylonitrile fibres and fabrics - produced by treating the polymer with a soln. of hydroxylamine and an organic base, then with a complexing salt soln.
Fire retardant polyacrylonitrile fibres and fabrics - produced by treating the polymer with a soln. of hydroxylamine and an organic base, then with a complexing salt soln.
Halogen-free, difficultly flammable acrylonitrile polymers are made by (1) reacting the polymer with hydroxylamine soln. and =1 organic amine, and (2) reacting the modified prod. with a metal salt soln. to form a complex. The process is esp. useful for flameproofing acrylonitrile fibres and fabrics. Treating the solid polymer as described obviates the final complexing treatment with an acid as used in prior art processes, which causes degradation of the polymer. Pref. the polymer is treated with an aq. soln. of a hydroxylamine salt and =1 organic base such as triethylamine, diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine, pyridine or triethylenediamine.
