Each wheel in a railway rolling stock wheel-set is braked by means of a block acting on its running surface, with at least one brake cylinder for each wheel-set. The brake cylinder (11) is mounted on a hinged setting, horizontally in the axle centre on each axle-bearing housing (4), facing lengthways. The brake block (18) is mounted centrally to the axle, engaging the wheel (5), so as to be activated from the other lengthways direction by the brake cylinder, via brake levers (13, 15) and brake lever connector (14).
