Ski with better balance between running and climbing characteristics - has fine transverse serrations on running surface

The polyethylene running surface of a ski (4) has a number of fine transverse serrations which achieves a better balance between running and climbing characteristics of the ski. The region (5) to which the ski boot is attached has relatively coarse serrations. The regions (6) on either side of this central region have finer serrations. The serrations are formed by means of an abrasive belt with a coarseness standard of 30 as specified by DIN 69100 with a belt speed of 5 metres per second transversely to the ski axis. A finishing operation is carried out with a finer abrasive belt which moves parallel to the ski axis and removes any burrs and sharp edges.
