Transfer machine comprises transmission units and installations for the positioning of workpieces, together with a number of work units (5) which carry out different work processes. Slide units (8, 9, 11, 12) are provided for the position variation of cutting heads in a direction dependent upon the workpiece. A numerical control for the slide units is provided, whereby the positional adjustment of the slide units takes place independently of the cutting heads' feed advance units. The machine can have slide units in each work complex which can execute horizontal and/or vertical movements. It obviates the complexity of drive and control systems on account of numerical control of the feed advance of each work unit (5) and likewise the difficulty of high speed drives for work unit positioning.
