The bath comprises a bathtub and an invalid chair, slewing between a position directly above the tub and one above and alongside it, and lockable in either end position. Between tub and chair is a hydraulic lifting mechanism controlled by a changeover cock connecting it to a supply of water under pressure and a discharge pipe, so as to lift the chair in and out of the bath. There is a separate control (13) for the slewing lock (9-12), and in the supply pipe to the hydraulic lift is a safety stop valve (17). This can only be opened or shut with the aid of the control, which engaged or release the lock when the chair is slewed into an end position.
