Haemodialysis blood circuit - has pipes, pump and accessories forming variable volume blood chamber

A hollow needle is inserted in the patient's blood vessel, a Y-connector being fitted between it and the dialysis unit. One arm of the connector is connected to the unit inlet with a suction pipe, a pump with a low haemolysis effect and the first section of a discharge pipe. A second arm is connected to the unit outlet via a drain pipe and a bubble trap forming the second section of the discharge pipe, and a device intermittently shuts off the pipes. The pump and/or the suction pipe, together with the unit and the discharge pipe with their accessories, constitute variable volume blood chamber reacting to the differential pressure acting on their walls. The shut-off device is driven cyclically.
