A plastic container is formed by extruding a tube of thermoplastic material onto a mandresl such that a portion at the upper end of the tube extends freely above the upper end of the mandrel. This portion is then heated by pref. directing hot air from nozzles onto the outside of it then moulded to produce a neck whilst the upper extremity of the tube is held in an upper support hood. The container is used for liquids, powders, pills or as cover for electric batteries. The neck of the container is simply and cheaply produced.
