An annular compressor with outer plates (1, 2) carrying cup-shaped flow channels (5, 6) and with a bladed disc (4) between them acting as an impeller for the liquid circulating through the channels, has the contact faces (8, 9, 10) of the plates, particularly in the region of the inlet and outlet openings, covered with a layer of plastics material (11) so that it can be easily machined for assembly with the disc (4) inbetween, so that the space between can be accurately formed and give free rotation of the components in operation.
