The HV generator has a rigid dielectric housing (11) containing two ceramic piezoelectric elements (8) and a system for compressing the latter employing at least two metal spheres (13, 14, 15) in contact the centre of one being positioned on the horizontal centre axis of the piezoelectric elements, while the other is at a different height to the first. A lever (3) allows a force to be exerted on the second sphere, which is transmitted to the piezoelectric elements via the first sphere. Preferably, the piezoelectric elements (8) are connected in series along a single line, in an insulating casing (9) and are connected via an insulated cable (7) to an electrode (4) transmitting the tension to the antennae of a testing device.
