An electric motor (2), driven from batteries, is mounted on a base (1) and drives a large pulley (6) using a rubber belt (5). This pulley carries an eccentric disc (8) which bears against ribs (9) forming part of the toy's body (4). An oscillating movement results, and the toy moves from side to side. Each leg has a plate (10e which can oscillate (11, 13) in a plane at 90 deg. to the eccentric, and the plates fit below the motor mounting being retain by an arm (23). As each leg is raised off the ground, a spring (16, 17) moves it forward via the oscillating plate. The complete mechanism is mounted on gimbals (25, 26, 27, 28).
