Absorbent mass for sulphur and chlorine in hydrocarbons - prior to steam reforming contg. sodium carbonate and oxides of zinc and magnesium

Absorbent mass for desulphurising and/or dechlorinating hydrocarbons for steam, has the compsn. 56-85% ZnO, 8-30% MgO, 4.5-20% Na2CO3. The hydrocarbons are desulphurised or dechlorinated by being passed over the absorbent at 200-400 degrees C under a pressure between atmospheric and 100 bars pref. after first having been passed over a hydrogenation catalyst or a hydrodesulphurisation catalyst. The steam reforming catalysts over which the hydrocarbons are passed after treatment are protected against S and Cl poisons.
