The livestock earmarking gun can be used with any make of trochar, and protects the operator's hand. It is easily and accurately controlled by the operator and returns quickly to its original position. The operation causes the least possible amount of the pain to the animal. The earmarker consists of a trochar (15) to which is fitted an earmarking tag (16). The trochar fits into a block (14) sliding in guide (13). A lever (19) actuated by the moving part (17) of the hand grip drives the block (14) bearing the trochar forward through the animal's ear held in slot (12). Return spring (28) withdraws the block and trochar into the resting position, leaving the earmaking tag in position in the ear.
