A motor driven pulley block with a motor (1) eg a pneumatic motor, driving a speed reduction gear (2) has the motor mounted at one end, in its own housing, and the reducer mounted in further housing at the other end so that the housings can be easily separated for access to the chain pinion (3) between them, for replacement or alteration of the drive ratio. The pinion (3) is positioned between two chain guides (4, 5) above the below, and these guides can be housed either inside the motor housing or inside the reducer housing.
