The pliers have permanent markings indicating the name of the maker. The markings (9) are raised but are in a recess so that they do not project from the surfaces of the tool. In this way the eventual obliteration of the markings by wear and tear is avoided. Each lever handle of the pliers has an annular ring at the junction between the handle and the gripping head. The rings fit on an axle pin (3) which forms the connecting hinge. The markings (9) stand proud of a recessed surface (8) formed on the external plane faces of each ring. The recessed surface (8) may be a circular groove, of uniform cross-section, concentric with the hinge axis.
