The pliers (1) have two pliers journals (2,3) with a grip area and are connected with each other in a hinge area for pivoting in a pivot plane. Recessed grips (4,5) are formed at the pliers journals, possibly at a grip cover, in which the pliers journals are received. An extension of the grip area is given at the hinge area side of the recessed grips in the closed position of the pliers. The extension corresponds the finger width.
