Spindle comprises a base plate having an odd number of three or more sockets in which shafts carrying friction discs rotate on parallel axes. The sockets are positioned in sets of three at the corners of equilateral triangles, with the discs overlapping each other. A yarn guide tube extends just above the level of the base plate parallel to the shafts and the thread to be processed follows a zigzag path between the friction discs. For each group of three shafts there is a bracket in the shape of a "U", located outside the discs and able to pivot on an axis parallel to their axes. The upper limb of the "U" bracket has a yarn guide at its tip coaxial with the yarn guide tube below, to which the lower limb of the "U" is fixed. The "U" bracket can pivot between two positions. In the one, the axis of the two guides coincides with the centre of the triangle formed by the three sockets, whilst in the other, the guides are outside the sockets in the threading position. Design enables the yarn to be threaded through the discs much more quickly. The discs do not need to be stopped and there is no complicated equipment to open them. Their relative positions remain constant.
