The parachute is contained in a bag fixed to the paratrooper's back. The main bag contains a smaller bag (4) which is attached to the release strap (1) and to the stabilising strap (9). The stabilising strap (9) ensures that the paratrooper swings into an upright position (A). The bag (4) is then pulled out of the main bag and the parachute is pulled out (B). As the force on the release strap (1) is increased, the strap (14) is stretched before the load is sufficient to break the connecting cord (18). The time delay in stretching the strap (14) allows the parachute to swing to a lower position (C). When the cord (18) breaks and releases (D) the parachute, it is clear of the aircraft.
