The drainage ditch excavator consists of a pair of vertical parallel cutting discs (14) supported on an arm (13) which moves on an axis connecting it to the chassis. This arm is controlled by a hydraulic jack. The excavator has a pair of shoes (17) which regulate the cutting depth and are also supported by the arm. A knife (20) is positioned between the cutting discs and a scraper (21) moves the material which it cuts into a channel (22) linked to a hoist (23). This empties into a hopper (10) supported on the axle (8) of the excavator. This avoids mounds of material being left at the side of the ditch.
