Dust emission from seed dryer reduced by air flow shutters - which are closed during periodic batch discharge of dried seed

Dust retention device is used for hot air seed dryer having movable baffles which can be adjusted to cut off the air flow through the dryer. Each baffle takes the form of a shutter pivoted about an axis at right angles to the direction of air flow. In the 'open' position, the shutters are parallel to the air flow. Pref. each shutter is profiled like an aeroplane wing with its leading edge directed into the air flow. Each shutter is pref. pivoted between two fixed baffles. The pivoted shutters are pref. all linked mechanically to be moved by a single pneumatic actuator. The linkage pref. actuates an electric timer which cuts off the drying air burner if the closed shutters are not reopened within a given interval. Used to reduce the amt. of dust released from a seed dryer to pollute the surrounding atmosphere and countryside. The device can be fitted quickly and inexpensively to existing dryers. The device reduces dust emission by 90% as dried batches are periodically discharged.
