A manometric transducer converts a mechanical force (F) applied to an actuating surface (30) into a fluid pressure signal (P). A primary high pressure source (P1) feeds a conduit (12) through a constriction (16) at one end. At the opposite end a flap valve (22) restricts the escape of fluid through an expanded orifice (22). Mechanical force on the flap valve brings about a pressure rise in the conduit which is available as an output pressure signal at take off point (26).
