Electrostatic precipitator for dust laden gases - has water cooled electrodes in pairs of groups

The precipitator has a pair of groups of electrodes arranged parallel to one another and to the direction of flow of the gases through the chamber contg. them. Each electrode is hollow and its temp. is regulated by a fluid passing through it. A number of discharge wires are located parallel to and between the groups of electrodes. A h igh d.c. voltage is applied between the discharge wires and the electrodes. Dust removal is by a scraper mechanism whose pressure on the electrode surfaces can be adjusted for optimum utilisation. The dust removed falls downwards between the electrodes in each group and the corona discharge from the discharge wires is not disturbed. The outer surfaces of the scrapers are cleaned twice in each cleaning cycle by suspended horizontal bars which are pushed outwards by the scrapers as the latter move upwards and downwards along the electrodes.
