A method of inflating the safety air chamber for a vehicle wheel. There is a primary annular air chamber and a secondary air chamber assembly, to which is fitted a normal inflating valve and one or more special valves. The latter join the two chambers. Initial inflation partially fills both chambers. The inflation is effected quickly to close the special valve (or valves) between the two chambers. This continues until the primary chamber is at the correct pressure. The intermediate pressure is between 45 and 85% of the final primary air chamber pressure. A special valve is used to carry out this procedure.
