The resistance heating element is intended for aircraft wings and rotor blades of a helicopter. It has electrically conducting fibres embedded in an insulating fibrous structure. The structure is bent around the leading edge of the wing. The conducting fibres may be of boron or carbon and the fibres forming the main structure may be of glass. The conducting and insulating fibres may be woven into a mat. Connection may be made to the mat or fibrous structure by evaporating metal onto its edges or by a resin filled with metal particles.
